Hi, my name is Barkley. I am a 7 year old Fox Terrier from Highton – and I scoot!
It is not that I enjoy repeatedly rubbing my bottom on my human’s pristinely white carpet, nor am I doing it for a few laughs. It just seems to be the only way to relieve the itchiness and pain that seems to be happening in that region. It is hard to describe. When I lick the area, there doesn’t seem to be anything on the outside, but there is kind of this burning feeling somewhere inside.
I heard through the hole in the fence of a similar thing happening to that foxy /poodle cross down the road called Lily. Only her scooting had been going on for a whole moon cycle! (About one month to you humans). And the most worrying thing was that her human pets didn’t take her to the vet until there was this horribly smelly pus oozing out next to the part where normally I would like to have a sniff. I certainly won’t be having a sniff around there for a while!!
I did hear Lily’s human family talking to mine and she is now doing quite well after some extensive veterinary treatment. They also mentioned a few words like impacted anal glands and anal gland abscess and abscess rupture. To my relief, I also overheard that my human pets are going to take me to the lovely team at the Newtown Veterinary Clinic to get my scooting sorted out ASAP!
