Do you wait until Two-Thirty?

What is the time? It’s Two thirty – time for the Dentist!! Ha ha, it’s an oldie but a goody. But seriously take my little pop quiz below to find out what sort of pet parent you are. And please be warned that some of the images below are quite disgusting and even I started gagging while looking at the images. Since searching Google for pictures of teeth for this blog, I have booked myself into the dentist for a scale and polish. I have also booked in all the furry children as well!!

Please select from the following

When do YOU decide to go to the dentist?

  1. A. When there is puss, pain, rotting teeth and absolute grossness in your mouth. Your family and friends never seem to come within 2 meters of you, even when you haven’t seen them for months (hmm – perhaps this is the reason they haven’t seen you for so long)

Quick!! Scroll down that picture is too gross!

B. When your teeth have felt furry for months. There is tartar building up and your gums have become so sore that the thought of brushing is painful. A visit to the dentist is desperately needed, but that is generally what you have nightmares about.

C. When you have sore red gums and realize it has been a bit long between visits and need to book in ASAP before it gets any worse.

D. You frequent the dentist regularly and your mouth is full of lovely pearly whites, fresh breath and you have already booked in your next check up. You are often caught humming the “are your Macleans showing” tune whilst brushing twice per day and your favourite TV character is ‘Rob the Dentist’ from the Oral B adds.

Lets all hope that most of us pick C or D. Now let us move onto our furry children and see what you pick below.

When do YOU take your beloved canine or feline to the vet for a dental checkup?

A. When you can’t stand to be within 2 meters of your pet because of the rotting putrid smell coming from their mouth. Your pet doesn’t seem to chew its food and certainly won’t eat anything hard. Sometimes your pet yelps when you try and touch them around their mouth, and on closer inspection it becomes evident that there is severe tartar build up. And yes that is puss coming out from the gum line?

B. There is a pretty funky smell coming from your pets mouth and it is ok to stand within about half a meter. There may not be any pus yet, but it wont be too long, as there is quite a lot of tartar. and gee-whiz those gums look inflammed!

C. Your pet has gums are that are red and sore looking. At last years vaccination the vet gave you a sample of a dental dry food, which you intended to buy. But hang on it’s already vaccination time again! Gee time flies. You are certainly keen to discuss your pets dental health at the next yearly checkup.

D. You have your pets teeth checked every 6 months at the vet and there is certainly no tartar build up in your furry friends mouth. You brush your pets teeth daily whilst humming the “are your Macleans showing” tune. You are also so eager to learn of the new dental product “Healthy Mouth” that you have had Newtown Vet Clinics August dental month highlighted on your calendar since August last year!

Now, there is no right answer to this quiz. Ideally we would love if it if you answered C or D. But often dental disease, even when severe, can go undetected in our furry companions, as they are by nature very good at disguising pain. That is why we would love to see you in at Newtown Vet Clinic for Dental month this August.

And remember…

If you let your pets teeth become smelly and rotten,

Your purse will seem like there’s a hole in the bottom.

But if you keep your pets mouth clean and healthy,

You will save many dollars and your wallet will be wealthy!
